Hot Air Balloon meditation (ages 5-8)

09/07/2026

Script

Sit back in your chair.

Put both feet on the ground.

Let your hands rest in your lap.

Take a big slow breath in through your nose…

And blow it out as if you are blowing out a birthday candle on your favourite cake.

Let's repeat that a few more times.

Breathe in through your nose… feel your belly inflating like a balloon…

And breathe out slowly as if blowing out a candle.

Keep breathing like this.

Now let's move our attention to the body.

I will name a body part.

When I name it, imagine it getting very heavy… almost like it is sinking into the chair.

Your tiny toes are very sleepy.

Your feet feel floppy.

Your legs are getting heavier.

Your belly is like a soft balloon slowly letting the air out.

Your arms feel like they are sinking into a soft marshmallow.

Your neck is long and loose… like the neck of a sleepy giraffe.

Your cheeks are smiling as if a soft feather was touching your face.

Your whole body is quiet and still.

Now imagine a colourful hot air balloon floating down from the sky to pick you up for a ride.

You don't have to choose where to go.

Your balloon already knows.

Now you slowly begin floating up into the sky.

Look below.

You can see the earth like a giant colourful ball.

Green forests.

Blue rivers making patterns and spirals.

Mountains covered in snow.

Villages with gardens and animals.

Cities with tiny buildings.

And if you look very closely, you can see your home far below.

You keep floating higher.

The air feels fresh.

The breeze feels soft.

Everything feels peaceful.

For a little while, you can simply enjoy the view.

(pause)

Now it is time for your balloon to bring you home.

Slowly floating down…

Down…

Back into this space.

Wiggle your fingers.

Wiggle your toes.

Take a big stretch like a cat waking up from a nap.

Open your eyes when you are ready.

And give yourself a big smile.

You did an amazing job.

Hope you enjoyed this mediation as much as I did writing this :)
